TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ The Tuskegee Golden Tigers volleyball team opened their 2024-25 season with a commanding 3-1 victory over Stillman College on Tuesday inside the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.
Tuskegee showcased its dominance early in the match, winning the first two sets convincingly with scores of 25-20 and 25-17. Stillman rallied in the third set to claim a 25-18 win, but the Golden Tigers responded with a strong finish, taking the fourth set 25-17 to secure the overall victory.
The match was marked by key contributions from multiple Tuskegee players. Kianna Wilcher was a standout in the back row, providing crucial digs and maintaining solid defensive coverage.
Moriah Seay was the driving force behind Tuskegee's attack, consistently delivering powerful kills that kept Stillman on their heels. Seay's leadership on the court was evident as she helped to maintain the team's momentum, especially in crucial moments.
Kayla Coleman also added to the Golden Tigers' offensive effort with key kills and blocks, while
Ma'kayla Jones brought strong net play, excelling in both blocking and attacking to stifle Stillman's offensive efforts.
Tuskegee's defense played a pivotal role in the victory, with the team showing strong discipline in serve-receive and maintaining defensive pressure. TU capitalized on Stillman's errors, particularly in the first two sets, and their balanced attack made it difficult for Stillman to establish a rhythm.
Stillman found some footing in the third set, where they managed to disrupt the home momentum, leveraging better ball control and strong serves to take a tight set 25-18. However, Tuskegee regrouped quickly in the fourth set, tightening up their defense and once again taking control of the match, finishing the game with a 25-17 win.
Jones led the way with a team-high 12 kills and five total blocks for 15.5 points, followed by Seay who recorded her first double double of the season with 11 kills and 21 digs. Meanwhile, Wilcher led the way with 24 digs, followed by Seay, and Edwards who had ten and two service aces.
