Tuskegee Falls to Lane, Spring Hill in SIAC Championships

COLUMBUS, Ga.  __ Tuskegee softball was eliminated from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championships with two losses on Tuesday, the first to Lane 2-0, before falling to Spring Hill 6-3 at the South Commons Softball Complex. 

Albany State 2, Tuskegee 0
Tuskegee and Lane found themselves in a pitching duel in the first game of the day, as both teams were strong in the circle in the 2-0 game. Kamya Hampton worked for six innings, allowing four hits and two runs, and striking out three, while Jersey Cabana got the win in seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out two.
 
Lane got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI double to bring home the first score, followed by a sacrifice bunt to go up 2-0.
 
Alexis Thompson led off the second with a double for Tuskegee to get in scoring position, however three straight pop ups ended the frame. The Golden Tigers' next hit came in the sixth from Kaeley Roldan, followed by an error that saw Payton Dunham reach base before the end of the fifth.
 
Roldan singled again with two outs in the seventh, while pinch runner Laila Wood subbed in as a pinch runner. Caroline Clark singled to left on the next at-bat and advanced to second to put runners on second and third, however the game was ended on a line drive to third base.

Spring Hill 6, Tuskegee 3
Tuskegee dropped its second game of the week on Tuesday evening in a battle of top two seeds in the SIAC West.
 
Spring Hill was the first to get on the board with a run in the opening inning after an RBI single that scored the leadoff hitter who walked to start the bottom half.
 
The pitchers dueled over the next four innings, with each team going scoreless, before Harrison doubled down the left field line to score pinch runner Jalyan Rhodes to tie the game at 1-1.
 
The Badgers took control in the bottom half of the sixth thanks to just two hits and three drawn walks to start the inning, scoring on a fielder's choice play, two RBI singles, and a groundout to take a 6-1 lead headed into the final inning.
 
The Golden Tigers rallied in the seventh, scoring on a triple from pinch hitter Aliyah Byrd and a groundout from Rector, yet TU could not complete the comeback, falling 6-3.
 
T'yauna Rector led Tuskegee at the plate in the contest, going 2-for-4 and driving in a run, while Chadwick went 2-for-3 with two singles. Katie Harris got the start in the circle, allowing four hits and just one run, while walking four and striking out one. Hampton came in out of the bullpen in the sixth, picking up the loss.
