Preview: Men’s Tennis Set for Battle against Benedict in SIAC Tennis Championship Semifinals

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee men's tennis team gets postseason underway on Saturday as they battle No. 2 seed Benedict in the semifinal round of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tennis Championship. The semifinal round starts on Saturday, with the finals set for Sunday morning all at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.

Tuskegee earned the No. 2 seed in the bracket after finishing the regular season 11-8 overall and 9-3 in league play. The Golden Tigers enter postseason play after falling in matches on the road to Spring Hill (7-0) and Alabama A&M (6-1). Despite two losses in non-conference play to end the season, the team has won six of its last eight matches, including five in league play.
 
The team is a combined 57-46 in dual singles this spring, anchored by senior Teryon Newbold-Hudson with a 9-5 mark. Sophomore Ty'lon Miller matched that win total on the season, going 9-7 so far. Meanwhile, four other players have won at least five matches, including Torain Alleyne, Keith Moultrie, Zamani Moyo, Eliyahu Pinkney, and Jack Shaw.
 
In dual doubles, the squad is a combined 22-26. The duo of Pinkney and Alleyne has earned the most wins on the season, going 7-8 as a unit, however the pairing of Newbold-Hudson and Moyo along with Jack Shaw and Miller both won five matches.
 
Benedict earned the No. 3 seed to reach the semifinal round after concluding the season with a 12-6 overall record and 9-3 mark in SIAC play. The Tigers played a very difficult schedule, facing five nationally ranked opponents.

They are a combined 57-33 in dual singles, including 45-13 in conference play. Anesu Kwirirai and Divgurjot Singh both have 12 wins so far, with Kwirirai holding a 12-3 mark, while Singh is at 12-5. Meanwhile, brothers Jason Chigaazira (10-6) and Mark Chigaazira (10-4) are next in the ranks.
 
In dual doubles, BC is a combined 28-19 with the Chigaazira pairing leading the way at 14-3, primarily at the No. 1 position, and 11-0 in the SIAC. Meanwhile, Kwirirai and Singh have a 12-6 record, including 10-2 in league play.
 
Tuskegee and Benedict have met on the courts twice this season, with TU winning both meetings. The Golden Tigers took both matchups by a score of 6-1, taking the first meeting on the road (Feb. 17), while winning the second at home at the Pepsico Tennis Courts (Mar. 7).
