Softball Drops Midweek Doubleheader to Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. __ Tuskegee softball team dropped a midweek non-conference doubleheader on the road to Alabama State on Wednesday, the first two of seven games in Montgomery over the week.

Alabama State 5, Tuskegee 4
A walk-off left Tuskegee on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat in the first game of the day, as the game was tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh before Alexia Denby brought home the winning run with an RBI single.

The Golden Tigers were first to get on the board, as Ty'auna Rector scored on a Jada Chadwick groundout in the opening inning to take the 1-0 lead. TU later added two more runs in the third inning that included three hits and two ASU errors.

After a single from Kaeley Roldan to start the frame, both Victoria Harrison and Chadwick reached base on defensive errors. Clark followed on the next at-bat with a single to center field, bringing home Harrison and pinch runner Payton Dunham.

Alabama State tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to three runs on four hits. With two runners in scoring position, a single from A Scott drove home the first run, before Denby earned her first two RBI with a single to right to tie the game at 3-3, where the score remained.

Five batters combined for the five hits by the Golden Tigers in the game, led by Caroline Clark who went 1-for-3 with two runs batted in, followed by Chadwick who went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Harrison, Rector, and Roldan all scored in the loss.

Kamya Hampton (5-2) took the loss in the circle for Tuskegee, going six and one-third innings. The senior allowed four runs on 13 hits, while striking out seven and walking one.

Meanwhile, Kohana Pousson earned the win in relief for the Hornets, surrendering six hits and two unearned runs over four innings and striking out one. Ashley Pye got the start in the first game, lasting two innings and giving up one hit and one run, while striking out two batters.
