MEMPHIS, Tenn. __ Tuskegee volleyball faced a tough day at the SIAC Crossover, dropping a pair of matches on Friday at the Memphis Sports & Events Center. The Golden Tigers opened the day with a 3-1 loss to Allen, followed by a 3-0 sweep at the hands of Albany State.
Allen 3, Tuskegee 1
In the first match, the Golden Tigers faced off against Allen University and started strong, but ultimately fell 3-1 in a highly competitive contest. Tuskegee took the first set, showing early control, but Allen bounced back, winning the next three sets to secure the victory.
The opening set saw Tuskegee start with momentum, with the trio of
Ma'Kayla Jones,
Kayla Coleman and
Sian Sprinkle leading the charge offensively. Jones recorded five kills in the first set, while Coleman and Sprinkle added three each, however TU struggled to get started, falling 25-23.
The Golden Tigers responded in the second set, earning 15 kills and maintaining a .273 hitting percentage. Four players recorded multiple kills offensively, giving way to a 25-23 win in the second for Tuskegee.
Allen regained its momentum in the third set, edging out Tuskegee 25-17, taking a 2-1 lead in the match. In the fourth and final set, Allen continued to put the pressure on. Tuskegee struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm, and Allen's defense stifled their attacks. Despite a late rally, the Golden Tigers couldn't close the gap, and Allen secured the set 25-14 to win the match 3-1.
Albany State 3, Tuskegee 0
In the second match of the day, Tuskegee faced Albany State but was unable to gain traction, losing 3-0 in a straight-set sweep. The Rams' defense and precise execution were too much for Tuskegee to handle.
Albany State took control early in the first set, establishing a strong presence both offensively and defensively. Despite three kills from
Lauren Canady, Tuskegee fell behind early and couldn't recover, losing the set 25-18.
The Golden Tigers fought hard in the second set, however Albany State continued to apply pressure with their well-organized attack, taking the second set 25-17, before finishing the sweep in the third set by a score of 25-21.
