TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ The Tuskegee volleyball team heads to Memphis, Tennessee, this weekend for another SIAC Crossover event. The Golden Tigers will face off against Allen, Albany State, and Fort Valley State in a challenging set of matches.
ABOUT TUSKEGEE (7-6, 4-4 SIAC)
Tuskegee enters the weekend with a 7-6 overall record and a 4-4 mark in conference play after a successful 4-1 week that included three neutral-site victories.
Tuskegee is coming off a strong week, pushing their overall record above .500. The team is led by four players with over 85 kills, including
Moriah Seay who leads the team with 120 kills and
Ma'Kayla Jones at 104. They are followed by
Sian Sprinkle and
Lauren Canady at 88 and 87 kills respectively.
Both setters on the roster have been effective this season, as
Mikea Allen, the team's primary setter, has tallied 264 assists so far?. Meanwhile,
Amara Dotson has recorded 162 assists along with a team-high 26 service aces.
Defensively, Seay continues to lead the unit with 138 digs and 20 total blocks, followed by both
Ziniah Hardy with 89 digs each. Jones has continued to show her dominance at the net, leading the program with 50 total blocks.
Offensively, the Golden Tigers are averaging 11.08 kills per set with a .189 hitting percentage. On defense, they are averaging 13.65 digs per set and 1.88 blocks per set, showing a well-rounded approach on both sides of the net. The team will look to continue their momentum from last week into this weekend's matches.
ABOUT ALLEN (4-7, 2-5 SIAC)
Allen University comes into the crossover with a 3-7 overall record and a 2-5 mark in SIAC play.
The Yellow Jackets are led by Maliyah Spencer, who has accumulated 86 kills, averaging 2.26 kills per set, and Zyara Harrison, who has 139 assists, averaging 3.86 assists per set.
Allen struggles offensively with a .122 hitting percentage as a team, but their defense, led by Myra Lopez with 162 digs, keeps them competitive.
ABOUT ALBANY STATE (7-4, 5-1 SIAC)
Albany State has been one of the stronger teams in the SIAC this season, boasting a 7-4 overall record and a 5-1 conference record.
Jarianis Perez is a force on offense, averaging 3.95 kills per set while maintaining a .230 hitting percentage. She is supported by Sydney Melton, who contributes 2.63 kills per set, and setter Mimi Harris, who leads the team with 136 assists.
Albany State's defense is also formidable, averaging 14.24 digs per set and 1.89 blocks per set.
ABOUT FORT VALLEY STATE (5-2, 4-2 SIAC)
Fort Valley State has put together a solid season, entering the weekend with a 5-2 overall record and a 4-2 conference record.
The Wildcats are led offensively by Caytlyn Sanford, who averages 2.44 kills per set and hits at a .267 clip. Laiani McCullough serves as the team's primary setter, averaging an impressive 5.84 assists per set, while defensively, Sarah Rosario leads with 84 digs.
Fort Valley also brings a strong blocking presence, averaging 2.00 blocks per set.
