TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ The Tuskegee women's basketball team earned their second win of 2024 with a 73-52 win over Benedict on Saturday in the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.
The Golden Tigers started out strong, opening the game on a 14-2 run through the first five minutes of play, witnessing scores from four different players. Benedict ended the run with a three-pointer at the 4:13 mark and went on to respond with a 10-3 run of their own to close the frame down just 17-12.
The second was all Benedict, holding the Golden Tigers to just nine points in the quarter. Tuskegee committed eight turnovers in the frame that converted to a pair of field goals for Benedict, as the half closed with the score tied 26-26.
Tuskegee made just four field goals in the frame, the lowest scoring quarter for the home team for the game, despite leading a majority of the first half.
The Golden Tigers separated themselves in the third quarter, outscoring Benedict 23-13 in the frame. Sumaiyah Abdur-Rahim and Cynaye Bobbitt both scored seven points in the period, outscoring BC on their own. Tuskegee forced eight turnovers and converted 11 points off the miscues to take control of the game heading into the fourth, where they cruised to the win.
Abdur-Rahim led a trio of double figure scorers in the win with 20 points along with nine rebounds, followed by Arielle McElroy with 14 points and seven assists, and Bobbitt with 11 points in the win.
As a team, the Golden Tigers shot 47.5 percent (28-for-59) from the floor, 63.6 percent (7-for-11) from long range in the contest. Benedict finished at just 31 percent (18-for-58) from the field, 22.6 percent (7-for-31) from three in the game.
Taylor Christmas led Benedict as the lone double-digit scorer for the program with 18 points on the day.
