Women’s Basketball Drops Road Game at Lane

JACKSON, Tenn. __ Tuskegee held a seven-point lead at halftime but would go cold in the second half and fell to Lane 72-60 on Monday evening inside the Oman Arena.

Tuskegee (10-5, 7-4 SIAC) got an early lead at 8-4 minutes into the game and played a strong opening quarter, scoring 25 points in the period. Six Golden Tigers scored in the frame, led by eight from Arielle McElroy and six from Brittney Bolin.
 
Lane also had a strong offensive quarter, shooting 9-for-14 from the field (64.3 percent) from the field, however had nine turnovers and trailed 25-20 after the first.

The Golden Tigers controlled the game into the second, pushing their lead to as many as 11 points after a layup from freshman Trinity Layton to put TU up 37-26 at the 3:35 mark.
 
The teams went back-and-forth over the next few possessions as Lane got the deficit to nine seconds later, however a five-point swing from Tuskegee made the score 42-28 with 2:46 to play in the half. From there, the Dragons went on a run of their own, outscoring the road team 9-2 to cut the lead to just 44-37 at the break.
 
Tuskegee's struggles began in the third, going cold from the field at just 3-of-15 from the field in the quarter and scoring just seven points. Lane outscored TU 12-0 in the paint on its way to tie the game at 47-47 with just under five minutes to play before holding a 53-51 lead heading into the final period.
 
The cold shooting resumed in the fourth, as the Golden Tigers made just three field goals again in the final frame. Lane forced Tuskegee into five turnovers over the ten-minute span and scored 19 points compared to just nine for TU, securing the double figure win.
 
Bolin led four double figure scorers for Tuskegee with 16 points, followed by 12 from Abdur-Rahim. Meanwhile, McElroy and Layton added 11 points and 10 points respectively.

Lane shot 27-of-55 from the field as a team and had two players in double figures. Brailyn Tate had 21 points and eight rebounds to lead the way, while Breonna Carey finished with 18 points and five rebounds. Meanwhile, TaShun Bryson and Chantoryia Rivers both added nine points in the contest.
