ALBANY, Ga. (May 2, 2023) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced its 2023 softball all-conference awards, as voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors.
Lane's Millay Lambert headlines the all-conference team after being selected as the 2023 SIAC Player of the Year and Utility Player of the Year. Her teammate, Jersey Cabana was named 2023 Starting Pitcher of the Year.
Spring Hill's Paityn Desormeaux earned this year's Relief Pitcher of the Year honor and Fort Valley State's Raven Webb was selected as the 2023 SIAC Freshman of the Year.
Lane's head coach, Joel Worthington, has been named the 2023 SIAC Softball Coach of the Year.
Both Kamya Hampton and Marissa Mitchell were named First Team All-SIAC, with Hampton being recognized as a starting pitcher, while Mitchell earning honors as the designated player. Hampton held a 2.83 ERA and a 9-7 record in her first year with the Golden Tigers, pitching 15 complete games and two shutouts. The right-hander pitched for 113.2 total innings, and allowed 89 hits, 46 earned runs and struck out 117 strikeouts. Mitchell led the team with a .506 batting average and .536 on-base percentage. The junior was also responsible for 40 hits, 19 RBI, 11 doubles, and 14 runs in 26 games on the year.
Meanwhile, Jada Chadwick T'yauna Rector were both named to the Second Team, with Chadwick maintaining a .359 batting average in 24 games, accounting for 23 hits, 20 RBI, and 12 runs and four total homers on the year. Meanwhile, Rector batted .477 in 26 games started, while also being responsible for 42 hits, a team-high 29 runs scored, and eight runs batted in.
The Elite 14 award recognized the student-athlete who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the SIAC championship level in his or her sport while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. Abigail Boudreaux of Miles College is this year's softball Elite 14 recipient and Hailey Bracey of Fort Valley State University is the Co-Elite 14 Award recipient.
