MONTGOMERY, Ala. __ The Tuskegee football team fell on the road to Alabama State, 41-3, during a chilly day for the 99th Turkey Day Classic contest at ASU Stadium.
The Golden Tigers were led by sophomore running back
Johnny Morris, who finished with game-highs of 100 rushing yards on 22 carries.
Alabama State's stingy defense held Tuskegee to a just 227 total yards and forced TU signal-caller
Bryson Williams to throw a pair of interceptions. Williams finished with 79 yards through the air.
Defensively, Tuskegee was led by sophomore linebacker
Malik Moore and freshman safety
Rossie Grimes with seven tackles each.
Alabama State struck first in the game on the opening kickoff, as Robert McMinn returned the kick 89 yards for the first score of the contest, before missing the extra point to take an early 6-0 lead.
Tuskegee's run game got rolling briefly on its first drive of the game, crossing the midway point of the field on a 20 yard run from
Zina Mulbah; however, the drive stalled after a 15-yard penalty, forcing the first of five
Ryan Duff punts.
After punts from both sides, Alabama State added its first offensive points on their third possession, marching down the field to take a 13-0 lead with a six-play, 58-yard drive capped by a 26-yard toss from Damon Stewart to Dylan Creech with 2:17 to go in the first period.
The Golden Tigers answered back with a 27-yard field goal after a nine-play, 70-yard drive, taking up over six minutes of game time. The Hornets added one more score before the half on a 13-yard connection from Stewart to Isaiah Scott, taking a 20-3 lead into the break.
Alabama State carried its stronghold on the game into the second half, adding an early score in the third on the ground, followed by two scores in the fourth for the final 41-3 score.
Stewart led the Hornets through the air, going 11-for-16 for 179 yards and three scores, while Ja'Won Howell led the rushing attack with 70 yards on nine carries in the game.
