Week 9 Preview: Golden Tigers Prepare for Final Home Game of 2023, Host Clark Atlanta on Saturday

TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Tuskegee football will return to action on Saturday as they host Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opponent Clark Atlanta, in the final home game of 2023, scheduled for 1 p.m. CT inside of Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium.

GAME NOTES
  • Tuskegee (6-2, 5-1 SIAC) will host Clark Atlanta (0-6, 0-6 SIAC) on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m., for the final game of 2023 inside of Cleve Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium. Fans can watch and listen live on the Black College Sports Network with Frank Lee (play-by-play) and Ken Woodard and Kindric Hooks (analysts).
  • Tuskegee has dominated the series with Clark Atlanta historically, leading 64-16-2, as the Golden Tigers have won 12 straight games and 23 of the last 25 meetings against the Panthers. The first game played between the two teams was in 1902, with Tuskegee winning, 11-0. In fact, TU won the first eight games played in the series before CAU won its first in 1928. The last time the Panthers defeated Tuskegee was in 2006, as Clark Atlanta took a 10-6 win. TU also took matchup last season, winning 45-43 in double overtime inside of Panther Stadium.
  • Tuskegee and Clark Atlanta will be meeting for the 83rd time for the third-most played series in school history, trailing Morehouse (113) and Alabama State (103), while being ahead of Miles (66) and Morris Brown (54).
  • The Golden Tigers are looking to remain near the top of the SIAC standings, as they are one of three teams to have just one conference loss on the season. The top two teams in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season will meet in Atlanta, Georgia for the SIAC Football Championship on Friday, November 11.
  • The Golden Tigers are 18-7 (.720) in its last 25 games in October, and 31-10 (.744) in the month dating back to the 2013 season, which includes an 11-3 (.786) home record, 9-6 (.600) on the road, and 11-1 (.917) record in neutral site games. 
  • Sophomore cornerback Mikael King had another standout week last weekend, as he was named the BOXTOROW HBCU National Player of the Week after another two interceptions against Savannah State to push his season total to sixth. The six interceptions from King is second in all of Division II entering Saturday's contest.
LAST MEETING
  • In their last meeting, Tuskegee etched out a 45-43 win in double overtime against Clark Atlanta in SIAC action on Saturday, October 1, 2022, inside of Panther Stadium.
  • The Golden Tigers earned the emotional win to extend their current win streak to three games with a two-point conversion ran in by Bryson Williams in the second overtime, after a crucial stop by the Tuskegee defense on a two-point play on the previous drive for Clark Atlanta.
  • The Golden Tigers rushed for a season-high 362 yards in the win over Clark Atlanta, including a pair of rushers over the century mark, highlighted by the career-high 218 yards on 26 carries from Taylor along with 18 carries and 118 yards from Donte Edwards.
  • Quarterback Malik Davis shined in his first start of the season at the helm of the offense, going 17-for-27 for 216 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
  • The Tuskegee offensive had with four ball carriers earning carries and six receivers catching passes, led by Jordan Ogletree with another big game, accounting for six catches for 93 yards and a score. Petty finished with 41 yards and a score on two receptions, while Antonio Meeks caught four passes and Rodricus Magee caught three on the day.
  • Kicker Arnes Huskic also had a good day in the win on special teams, going a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals (29, 25, 24) as well as going perfect on PATs.
  • Vincent Hill led the way defensively with 11 total tackles, including a sack and 2.5 tackles for loss. Meanwhile, Malik Moore followed with nine tackles, including one for loss, followed by Davir-Hamilton Jackson and Zelly Aldridge both finished with four respectively.
