GAME NOTES
- Tuskegee and Hampton will meet for the 30th time in the series, with Tuskegee holding a slight 16-13 edge. The teams first met in 1907, with Hampton taking a 10-0 win, and last met on September 20, 2003, with the Pirates winning 53-0 in the Ohio Classic.
- Between the two teams, Tuskegee has the longest win streak in the series at 11 games, spanning a decade (1964-74). The longest streak for Hampton is five games, spanning from 1910-1961.
- Despite the loss last week, the Golden Tiger defense is ranked fourth in all of Division II in passing yards allowed, giving up just 51 yards to Fort Valley on Sunday. Antonio Kennon Jr. (Atlanta, Ga.) and Vincent Hill (Fairburn, Ga.) led the way defensively, with Kennon recording eight tackles -- including five solo -- while Hill also added eight tackles, with six assisted. Defensive lineman Jeremy Dees (Evergreen, Ala.) accounted for seven tackles on the night, including 1.5 tackles for loss.
- Running back Donte Edwards rushed for a team-high 81 yards on 20 carries in his Tuskegee debut after transferring from Miles, good for just over four yards per attempt. The senior looks to improve on his 2021 Second Team All-SIAC honors.
- While the new look offense struggled with yard production in game one with just 209 total yards, Tuskegee did show the capability to spread the ball out to a variety of playmakers. Eight different receivers were targeted against Fort Valley between the two quarterbacks, with Antonio Meeks (Lilburn, Ga.), Rodricus Magee (Jackson, Miss.), Jonathan Montrevil (Miami, Fla.), Jordan Ogletree (LaGrange, Ga.), Latrevien O'Neal (Notasulga, Ala.), and Corey Petty (Warner Robins, Ga.) all earning catches. Meanwhile four different players earned carries.
- A Golden Tiger win would be Tuskegee's 700th official victory all-time, keeping them as the second winningest program in Division II college football history, and most all time among HBCUs.
- A win would also give new head coach Reginald Ruffin his 66th victory as a head coach and first at Tuskegee University.
