LaGRANGE, Ga. – Tuskegee tennis had a strong showing in non-conference action against LaGrange college at the Greer Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon, with
the women's team sweeping the Panthers 9-0, while the men took a 5-4 win.
In doubles play, both pairs of
Taylor Ford (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
Chloe Griffin-Harrington (Rocky Mount, N.C.) as well as
Dayna Jackson (Powder Springs, Ga.) and
Barbara Phillips (Little Rock, Ark.) took home 8-0 wins against their respective opponents, while
Malaika Stokes (Frankfort, Ill.) and
Jadyn Lynch (Atlanta, Ga.) took home an 8-1 win. The Golden Tigers did not allow a score in singles play, with all six games being wins in straight sets.
On the men's side, the Golden Tigers dropped three close double matches, with
Josiah Blocus (Atlanta, Ga.) and
Teryon Newbold-Hudson (Powder Springs, Ga.) dropping an 8-7 match, followed by an 8-6 loss from
Symon Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) and
Eythan Ward (Conyers, Ga.) and
David Larkin (Warner Robins, Ga.) and
Josue Blocus (Atlanta, Ga.) falling by a score of 8-6.
In singles, Blocus took a win with scores of 6-0, 6-2, while Hudson earned a win in three sets at 6-0, 3-6, and 10-3 before Ward also swept his match at 6-1, 6-2. Brown dropped the lone singles match by scores of 6-0, 6-1, while Johnson and Miller both won by scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-3 respectively.
