Tuskegee falls in high scoring midweek battle against Talladega College

Box Score TALLADEGA, Ala. I Tuskegee baseball (10-8) dropped a midweek non-conference game against Talladega College 15-12 despite 14 hits on Tuesday afternonon.
 
The Golden Tigers fired up the offense in the first inning, when Caleb Cobb (Hockley, Texas) doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. They added two more in the frame with an RBI single on the next at-bat from Albert Gonzalez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and an RBI double from Harrison Barnes (Cincinnati, Ohio) to bring home Gonzalez.
 
Talladega added a pair of runs in their first inning at the plate, with two-run homer to left field to pull within a run, however. Tuskegee added another score in the second on a double from Russell Coleman (Laurel, Miss.) to score Jaylen Hill (Jonesboro, Ga.), and two more in the third on an RBI from Barnes, who later scored on a walk to take an early 6-2 lead.
 
The Tornadoes battled back into the game however, scoring one in the third and two in the fourth to get within a run at 6-5. They began to pull away for good with seven runs in the fifth inning, recording four hits including a pair of home run in the explosive inning. Talladega also scored one off a Tuskegee error, that saw the fifth end with the Tornadoes leading 12-6.
 
After adding a run in the sixth off a Talladega error, the Golden Tigers surrendered three more runs in the seventh to find themselves down 15-7 before an attempted rally in the next inning, scoring five in the eighth. The offensive firepower was led by Cobb, Mark Hatch (Chicago, Ill.), and Alex Glass (Birmingham, Ala.), all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning, however Tuskegee could not complete the comeback, falling short 15-12.
 
Ramses Ortega was credited with the victory for Talladega. The right hander allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out two.
 
Malaki Roberts (St. Petersburg, Fla.) took the loss for Golden Tigers, allowing six runs on four hits and striking out one during his time on the mound. Meanwhile, DeAngelo Nowell (Atlanta, Ga.) started the game, lasting 3.3 innings and allowed four hits and five runs along with six strikeouts.
 
Tuskegee tallied 14 hits on the day, led by four batters who each managed multiple hits for Golden Tigers.
 
Up Next 
Tuskegee will return home this weekend for a weekend series against SIAC opponent Albany State for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 26, and the final game on Sunday. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 12 p.m.
