Game Recap: Softball |

Tuskegee brings out the brooms, sweeps rival Miles College

The Tuskegee University softball team picked up its seventh victory over the last nine meetings against Miles College with a pair of doubleheader wins at the TU Softball Field Saturday afternoon. The Golden Tigers are now riding the wave of a five-game winning streak.

In game one, Skegee used a walk-off double from Jasmyne Lawrence in the bottom of the eighth inning that drove home Kyah Dumas, securing the game for a 6-5 come from behind effort. The Golden Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the third inning, before TU would tie things up in the bottom half of the same inning after a Sierra Smith two-run home run.

In the fourth inning, Skegee would get its first lead of the game when Jayme Marbury scored on a Miles College wild pitch, making the score 3-2. The Golden Bears responded with a three-run fifth inning, regaining its lead at 5-3.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Golden Tigers started its rally, slowly chipping away at its deficit, which started with a Chelsea Mowery RBI single and a Cece Tennessee base hit that scored Kayla Wright. With the game tied at 5-5, that is when Lawrence came through with her clutch hit for the win.

Dumas, Lawrence and wright each had multiple hits in game one. Jamie Lyons, earned the victory for TU after pitching all eight innings.
In game two, TU dominated much of the game before allowing three meaningless runs near the end of the contest. In the first inning, Wright singled to left field, with Lawrence scoring an unearned run. Tennessee singled up the middle later in the third, driving in S. Smith and Lawrence, making the score 3-0.

From that point, the bombs started coming. Myracle Hawkins cranked one to center field in the fourth inning, while Kendra Gibbons sent one over the right field wall in a two-run shot in the fifth inning, extending TU's lead to 6-0.

Mowery earned the win on the mound for Skegee. She pitched all seven innings.
