TU stumbles at UAH

HUNTSVILLE | Sydnee Uhlman tossed the program's eighth perfect game, and the No. 16 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team defeated Tuskegee University on Tuesday afternoon, 12-0 in the first game before taking an 12-0 win in in the nightcap. It would mark the final tuneup before the team enters conference play next week.

TU was only able to come up with just one hit over five innings while UAH struckout out four to earn the complete game victory. Jayme Marbury notched the team's lone hit.
 
The Chargers outhit the Golden Tigers by an 8-1 margin, and UAH also drew seven walks in the contest. Both Taylor Wascavage and Shelby Booker had a pair of hits in the game, and Wascavage drove in four runs to lead the Chargers in RBI. Jada Hayes and Ashley Cornell also knocked in a pair of runs in the contest. At the top of the order, Reagan Malone walked three times and scored twice. Malone also stole a pair of bags, helping UAH total four in the game.
In game two, Uhlman struck out the first three batters she faced on just 11 pitches, setting the tone early for an 11-0 victory.
 
TU allowed 13 hits in the contest, with each of Malone, Gracie DeatonEve MallardShannon Long, and Wascavage having a pair, and Malone drove in a team-best four runs.  Each of Mallard, Long, and Wascavage knocked in a pair of runs in the contest. Mallard, Long, Wascavage, and Hayes all scored twice.
 
After a scoreless first, the Chargers got on the board with a five-spot in the second with Deaton doubling in a run, Long and Wascavage singling in a score, and Malone driving in a pair on a double of her own. The Chargers added onto that 5-0 lead with four more runs in the bottom of the third with Wascavage singling in a run and Malone picking up another pair of RBI on a base hit to right. UAH then produced the 11-0 final when Mallard doubled to plate a run and Long singled in a run in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Skegee now shifts its attention to league play and the 2019 SIAC Softball Crossover in Jasper, Ala. from March 13-17.
