Game Recap: Softball |

Softball sweeps through last day of SIAC Crossover

The Tuskegee University softball team competed in Jasper, Ala. at the 2019 SIAC Softball Crossover and finished the weekend with a 3-2 record against teams from the league's eastern division.

The Golden Tigers dropped its first two contest 5-4 to Albany State and later against Benedict College, 14-6. TU would bounce back and sweep through the remainder of Saturday's and Sunday's action,

Day two started with a 12-4 win over Clark Atlanta and capped off with a 7-0 shutout to top Fort Valley State. CeCe Tennessee and Destiny Buckhanan each earned triples while
Myracle Hawkins and Kyah Dumas  both notched doubles against CAU. Jamea Lyons earned the victory over FVSU after pitching the entire game and striking out two batters. She would only allow three hits on the day.

The Golden Tigers concluded the tournament Sunday with an emphatic 30-1 win over Paine College. It would mark the third time in school history the program has scored 30 or more runs in a game. In 2001, TU defeated LeMoyne Owen 31-8 and Paine again 35-16 in 2002.  Skegee scored 12 runs in the second inning and 12 more in the third before the game was officially called a run-ruled affair in the fifth.

The lopsided game included 19 hits and 18 RBI. Iyana Smith earned the win, allowing one run on two hits and a pair of strikeouts.

TU opens a three-game set at Kentucky State this weekend, which includes a double-header at 1 p.m ET and a single game Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
