Smith helps Golden Tigers take two from Lane

The Tuskegee University Softball team topped Lane College in a pair of doubleheader games Monday afternoon from Jackson, Tenn. The Golden Tigers have now won five of its last seven games including a complete series sweep of LeMoyne Owen College last weekend.

 Sierra Smith's big day in both contest was the difference.  The Riverdale, Ga, native racked up six hits, three runs, three RBI and one home run against the Dragons. 

After two scoreless innings In game one, Cecelia Tennessee broke things open with a two RBI single to right field that Smith was able to advance to third on which also scored Jasmyne and Camira Sanders. The Golden Tigers tacked on three more runs giving them a 5-0 lead after three innings of play.

Lane would respond with a five run fifth inning of their own before TU's Kiah Dumas and Sanders crossed home plate again, which provided the Golden Tigers with a two-run cushion at 7-5 in the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, Shambrinetta Adams scored on a wild pitch and the team would later add runs from Lawrence and Smith to round out the final score of 10-8. Smith and Lawrence both finished game one going 3-of-5 with a pair of runs scored.

Smith's big bat carried over into game two when she opened with a blast to left field providing the Golden Tigers with an early 1-0 lead. Moments later, Adams added a two-run homer that also drove in Chelsea Mowery, making the score 3-0. Adams was an efficient 3-of-4 at the plate for TU including four runs scored and four RBI.

Tuskegee will look to complete the Sweep at Lane tomorrow with a single game 1 p.m. from Muse Park
