The Tuskegee University softball team dropped a pair of games against in-state foe Alabama A&M Tuesday afternoon. Tuskegee fell 13-0 in game one and 19-9 in game two from the TU Softball Field.
GAME 1
The Lady Golden Tigers fell behind as Alabama A&M's offense found success early. Tuskegee surrendered three runs in the first inning and after a 1-2-3 inning, AAMU seized the upper hand for good with a four-run splurge in the second and a two-run homer from Tiana Sanders in the third to make the score 9-0 in favor of the visiting Bulldogs
Alabama A&M's Lauren Hayden carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, where Kyah Dumas broke things up with a single to left. However, Tuskegee was retired in order from there to end the game.
GAME 2
Similar to game one, Alabama A&M's offense started quickly, building a 6-0 advantage over the first three innings. Tuskegee got on the board after Sierra Smith (3-for-5, 5 RBI, 2 R) took a Rachel Sanders pitch out of the park for a two-run home run.
In the fourth, AAMU's Sanders hit her second two-run blast to spark a five-run surge and amass an 11-2 lead.
After scrapping together two runs via a wild pitch and a fielder's choice, the Lady Golden Tigers got their bats going in the bottom of the frame as Jasmyne Lawrence singled home Jasmine Howard, Smith blasted her second round-tripper of the game – this one a three-run homer – and Cecelia Tennessee (2-for-4, R) followed with a solo shot of her own. After the seven-run surge, Alabama A&M led 11-9.
However, Tuskegee allowed eight unanswered runs over the fifth and sixth innings as Alabama A&M pulled away late.
Dumas, Howard, Lawrence and Sommer Fitzpatrick each picked up a base hit for the Lady Golden Tigers, with Fitzpatrick scoring two runs.
