The Tuskegee University baseball team gets a mid-week tuneup with the University of Alabama-Huntsville Wednesday afternoon before getting on the road this weekend for its conference opener at Benedict. The Golden Tigers and the Chargers will compete in a single game at Paterson Field in Montgomery (Ala.) with the first pitch set for 4 p.m.
TU enters the contest with a 4-12 overall record, after most recently falling at Montevallo last Wednesday by a score of 7-1.
Ryan Green leads the Tigers offense with a .303 batting average, while the Tuskegee pitching staff owns an 8.06 team ERA.
UAH is coming off a series loss this past weekend at Valdosta State, as the Blazers took both games of a doubleheader on Saturday before UAH won the series finale on Sunday by a score of 7-5. The Chargers are now 10-8 overall and 5-4 in the GSC, which has the squad tied for fifth with two other teams in the league standings.
Ben Rhodes begins the week on a 12-game hit streak, dating back to the start of GSC play at Auburn Montgomery on Feb. 23 which has raised his season batting average to second on the roster at .415. Since Feb. 23, Rhodes has led the roster with a .535 batting average (23-for-43) and 13 runs scored, while totaling five doubles, one triple, two homers and six RBI.
