GULF SHORES, Ala. - Delta State University used late rally in the sixth inning which led to defeat three-time defending SIAC champion Tuskegee University on the second day of the D2 Gulf Coast Invitational on Saturday Morning 5-4
Delta State put themselves on the board early in the first inning as Madison Zoller singled to right field for a RBI single to give a one run lead early. The Golden Tigers wouldn't find themselves in a scoring situation until the second inning where they picked up four hits. This offense was started by
Jasmine Snyder as she homered to center, which tied the game. Tuskegee wasn't finished just yet as they added one more run in the second following a RBI single to the right by
Jasmine Howard to bring the score in
favor of Tuskegee (0-2) in the bottom of the 2nd
Following the bottom of the second, both teams would remain scoreless up until the sixth inning of play which was headlined by Delta State. Delta State in the top of the sixth inning would go onto take the lead scoring three runs which started with a RBI single from Jordan Jones and from this point Delta State had control.
Tuskegee attempted to rally in the seventh inning scoring a run but fell short on the final at-bat with a strikeout to end the game.
In the day's second game, University of Mobile (2-0) and the pitching skills of Hope Cain led to defeat Tuskegee 8-0. The Rams had a day of dominance on the mound by Hope Cain who pitched a complete game while she only allowed hit on the day. Cain finished the day striking out 8 batters and only allowing two walks on the day.
Scoring picked up after third inning until the bottom of the third inning as the Rams which was started by Phoebe Owen as she hit a 2 RBI homer to left center to get the Rams on the board first. This scoring would follow suit for the remainder of the game as the Rams would dominate Tuskegee putting up eight runs on six hits.
The third baseman
Jamaica Williams was the lone Tuskegee player who was able to pick up a hit on the afternoon finishing 1-of- 2.
Tuskegee returns to action Sunday with two games in the D2 Gulf Coast Invitational against Alabama-Huntsville University at 11:30 am and West Florida University at 2:00 pm.
