GULF SHORES, Ala. - Alabama-Huntsville used an early start which led to defeat three-time defending SIAC champion Tuskegee University (0-4) on the final day of the D2 Gulf Coast Invitational on Sunday morning, 11-0.
Tuskegee opened the game with a three up and three down inning. Following Alabama-Huntsville managed to get themselves on the board early scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first. This was started by Regan Malone who picked up a 2 RBI single to second base to get two runs on the board early. Following the hot start in the opening inning the Chargers would never look back as they would score seven more runs on the day to complete the shutout headlined by pitcher Emily Glover. She only allowed for two hits and struck out six batters and allowed no walks.
Tuskegee would only pick up two hits in the first game which was by third baseman
Jamaica Williams and first baseman
Shakayia Wilson. In the day's second game, West Florida University (4-1) and the pitching efforts of Taylor Rolison led to defeat Tuskegee 8-0. West Florida had a day of dominance on the mound by Taylor Rolison who pitched a complete game while she only allowed two hits. Cain finished the day striking out 5 batters and only allowing two walks on the day.
Scoring picked up in the bottom of the first inning for West Florida. The scoring for West Florida was started by Kathleen Smiley on a RBI single up the middle and a sacrifice fly by Callan Taylor to get two early runs on the board. West Florida would continue their dominance scoring in each inning by putting up eight runs on nine hits.
