Lady Golden Tigers fall to Barry in season opener

GULF SHORES, Ala. | Barry University used a quick start with a two-run homerun to left field by Peyton Rawls to defeat three-time defending SIAC champion, Tuskegee University, in the opening day of the D2 Gulf Coast Invitational 6-3 Friday night.

The Buccaneers took an early lead in the first inning when designated hitter Lynsey Duncan singled to center. With one on, Rawls put the Bucs on the board early in the game taking a two-run lead in the top of the first.

Tuskegee would follow the first inning by getting on the board with an unearned run scored by Jasmine Snyder, following a throwing error by the second baseman to put Tuskegee within one. However that was as close as the Lady Golden Tigers would get as Barry was able to pull away late for the win.

Jasmine Snyder finished the day 3-for-4 and was the only player with multiple hits on Tuskegee (0-1).

Tuskegee returns to action Saturday with two games in the D2 Gulf Coast Invitational against Delta State University and the University of Mobile.
