TUSKEGEE, Ala. | After opening the season with five non-conference matches, the Tuskegee University volleyball team hits the road this weekend to open Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play in the West Cluster.
Tuskegee (0-5), picked to finish third in the SIAC West Division, will open play in the cluster at 8 am (est) against Central State, before playing two more matches on the opening day in Frankfort – site of Kentucky State University.
The Lady Golden Tigers will also play Lane at 12 noon (est) and Kentucky State at 6 pm (est) on the opening day of the cluster, before closing out play at 8 am (est) on Saturday against LeMoyne-Owen.
A trio of freshmen lead Tuskegee offensively, combining for 95 of the team's 141 kills.
Jessica Johnson (Stockbridge, Ga.) leads all players with 35 kills on 107 total attempts (hitting .056). Meanwhile, fellow freshman
Taliyana Bryant (North Little Rock, Ark.) has 31 kills and
Shakayia Wilson (Goose Creek, S.C.) 29 through five matches. Sophomore
Donovan Wingfield (Cincinnati, Ohio) has added 21 kills on the season.
Janae Graham (Long Beach, Calif.), in her first five career matches at setter, leads the team with 112 assists and five service aces. She has also contributed 35 digs, while
Zahria Radford (Houston, Texas) – the reigning SIAC Defensive Player of the Week – leads the team with 71.
