Baseball hosts 13th-ranked Columbus State Wednesday

Tuskegee will face Columbus State, then head to Memphis for conference play

TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University baseball team returns to Paterson Field on Wednesday afternoon to face Columbus State University in their only midweek non-conference game this week.

The game is scheduled to start at 3 pm (cst).

Tuskegee (3-13, 1-2 SIAC) will look to rebound following their series loss to Kentucky State over the weekend. Although they lost the series, there were some bright spots for Tuskegee in the three games with Trey Nelson earning his first win of the season on Saturday with an 8-4 decision. The sophomore went five innings and allowed three runs, none of which were earned.

Also on the mound Sunday, Ricky Green and Clayton Crews combined to throw six innings of shutout relief against Kentucky State; while on Saturday, freshman Jalen Luter hit his first career homerun and drove in a career-high five runs in the 8-4 victory.

Tuskegee and 13th-ranked Columbus State (16-4, 5-1 PBC) have met one time this season, a game in which the Cougars won 14-3 in Columbus. In that game, Columbus State jumped ahead early and the Golden Tigers runs came via a three-run homerun by Matthew Reed.

The Golden Tigers and Columbus State have met seven times over the last three-plus years, with Columbus State winning each meeting. Ironically, the second meeting last season came right before the LeMoyne-Owen series as it does this season. Last season after the Columbus State game, Tuskegee swept LeMoyne-Owen to close out conference play.
