TUSKEGEE, Ala. | After six days off, the Tuskegee University baseball team returns to action Tuesday evening on the road facing Georgia Southwestern State University in non-conference action.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 pm (est) at Hurricane Stadium in the Susan K. Smith Baseball and Tennis Complex.
The meeting will be the first between the Golden Tigers and Georgia Southwestern (14-10, 2-10 PBC), but will be the fifth time that Tuskegee (3-14, 1-2 SIAC) has played a game against a member of the Peach Belt Conference. The Golden Tigers have faced Columbus State and Montevallo, playing each twice this season.
Tuskegee has not played since facing Columbus State last Wednesday at Paterson Field due to their conference series with LeMoyne-Owen being cancelled due to rain in the Memphis-area this weekend. The game on Tuesday against the 'Canes, marks the seventh mid-week game Tuskegee will have played in this year. They have posted a 1-5 mark in mid-week games, with their win coming back on February 10 against Selma in the first game of a doubleheader.
Ricky Green leads the Golden Tigers in both batting average and earned run average, coming out of the bullpen four times this season. The junior is hitting .297, driving in the team's only run against Columbus State last week, and has recorded a 1.17 ERA in 7.2 innings pitched.
Four freshmen are up near the top in batting average this season for Tuskegee through 17 games, with
Christian Marshall hitting at a .294 clip. A trio of freshmen –
Elgin Woodside,
Samuel Glickman and
Matthew Reed – are all hitting .286 this season for Tuskegee, with Woodside and Reed tied for the team lead in homeruns with two.
On the mound,
Trey Nelson (1-2) leads the team in innings with 22.1 and has a team-high 21 strikeouts thus far this season. He picked up his first win of the year in conference play against Kentucky State over a week ago.
