Volleyball to celebrate Senior Day Wednesday night

The match begins at 6 pm inside Chappie James, with festivities beginning prior to the match

TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University volleyball team looks to rebound from a weekend road loss at Clark Atlanta when they host Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) East Division foe Albany State Wednesday night inside Chappie James Arena.

The match will be final home match for the Lady Golden Tigers, who will honor their two seniors – Pamela Allen and Jacqueline Wilson – prior the match that begins at 6 pm.

Tuskegee (10-15, 10-7 SIAC) holds the edge over LeMoyne-Owen for the second seed in the West Division with three conference matches remaining. The Lady Golden Tigers are three wins ahead of LeMoyne-Owen, and just two games behind Kentucky State for the top seed out of the West Division.

The Lady Golden Tigers and Albany State have met one time before, playing in the SIAC Crossover in which Albany State won 3-1 on their home floor back in September.

A trio of freshmen leads Tuskegee offensively, including reigning SIAC Newcomer of the Week Taliyana Bryant. The freshman registered 20 kills in the four-set loss to Clark Atlanta on Saturday, and is currently 10th in the SIAC in kills and second on the team with 208. She is just behind fellow freshman Jessica Johnson, who is currently seventh in the conference in kills with 216.

Shakayia Wilson, the final part of the freshman trio, has 171 kills; while sophomore Donovan Wingfield has added 146 this season.

Defensively, preseason All-SIAC selection and reigning conference defensive player of the week, Zahria Radford leads the team with 420 digs. She currently leads the conference in that category through 25 matches. Meanwhile, Janae Graham – who made the move from defensive specialist to setter this season – leads the team with 752 assists and is currently second in the conference in that category.

The match can be seen on the Tuskegee Digital Network beginning with the pre-game show at 5:45 pm.
