TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University volleyball team finished off a four-win weekend with a pair of victories over Central State and Kentucky State on the final day of the SIAC West Cluster hosted at Chappie James Arena Saturday afternoon.
Tuskegee (9-13, 9-6 SIAC) won all four of their matches that were scheduled as part of the SIAC West Cluster this weekend, with their only loss coming in a regularly scheduled match-up with Spring Hill on Thursday.
The Lady Golden Tigers opened the day with a 3-0 (25-14,25-12,25-19) over Central State, while holding Central State to just 15 kills and a hitting percentage of -.036 in the three-set victory.
Freshman
Jessica Johnson continued her hot play on the weekend, finishing with 13 kills in the win over the Lady Marauders, hitting .321 in the three sets. Although she was the lone player in double figures in kills, fellow freshman
Taliyana Bryant finished with eight kills and
Donovan Wingfield six in the win.
Tuskegee finished hitting .234 in the opening match with 38 kills on 94 total attacks.
Sophomore
Janae Graham finished with 29 assists and six digs, while sophomore
Zahria Radford finished with 16 digs against Central State.
Tuskegee finished the day with a hard-fought 3-1 (26-24,25-23,21-25,25-19) victory over defending SIAC champion Kentucky State, while holding the Thorobrettes to a .200 hitting percentage.
Bryant led a trio of players in double figure kills with 13 kills, while Wingfield added 12 and Johnson 10 in the victory. Graham assisted on 40 of the team's 47 kills, while also adding eight digs.
Radford led Tuskegee with 18 digs, while
Avery Brown finished 13 in the nightcap.
Tuskegee returns to action Tuesday night, hitting the road to face the University of Montevallo in non-conference action.
