TUSKEGEE, Ala. | Playing at home for the first time in a month, the Tuskegee University volleyball team won two of three matches on the first day of the SIAC West Cluster held at Chappie James Arena Thursday.
Tuskegee (7-16, 7-6 SIAC) started the day with a resounding 3-0 (25-16,25-20,25-15) victory over Lane to start the Cluster.
Jessica Johnson led Tuskegee with 13 kills, while hitting .429 in the opening match. Although she was the lone player in double figures in kills,
Taliyana Bryant finished with six kills and hit .286 in the victory.
Janae Graham finished with 29 assists and seven digs, while
Zahria Radford finished with eight digs, while
Avery Brown finished with six digs in the win.
Tuskegee held Lane to just a .054 hitting percentage.
They took the court just a few hours later and defeated LeMoyne-Owen 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 26-24) to win their first two matches of the day.
Johnson recorded 13 kills in her second consecutive match, while hitting .229, while Bryant finished with 10 kills and
Shakayia Wilson each added nine in the victory. The Lady Golden Tigers were able to avenge an earlier season loss to LeMoyne-Owen at the first SIAC West Cluster in Kentucky, while holding the Magicians to just .068 hitting.
Graham finished with a double-double, recording 38 assists and 11 digs, while Radford led the team with 16 digs.
In their final match of the day, a match that was not part of the SIAC West Cluster as it was scheduled earlier in the year, Tuskegee fell to Spring Hill 3-0 (14-25,14-25,13-25).
Wilson led Tuskegee with seven kills, while Johnson added six. Graham finished with 18 assists and Radford 15 digs.
For the day, Johnson finished with 32 kills to lead Tuskegee. Meanwhile, Bryant with 20 and Wilson 14 on the day. Graham finished the day with 85 assists and 23 digs, while Radford finished with 39 digs.
Although they do not play in the SIAC West Cluster tomorrow, it will continue with eight matches. The Lady Golden Tigers return to action on Saturday against Central State at 12 noon and Kentucky State at 2 pm.
