TUSKEGEE, Ala. | Tuskegee University and Chappie James Arena will awaken early Thursday morning with the start of the SIAC West Cluster, hosted by the Lady Golden Tigers volleyball team, as seven teams from SIAC West Division will face each other over three days.
Tuskegee (5-12, 5-5 SIAC) will start the West Cluster off on Thursday morning at 9 am against Lane College, and the day will feature seven total matches - including one scheduled before the Cluster was scheduled. Other matches on the opening day include Lane-Miles (11 am), Spring Hill-Miles (1 pm), Lane-Spring Hill (3 pm), Tuskegee-LeMoyne Owen (5 pm) and Lemoyne Owen-Miles (9 pm). The Lady Golden Tigers will face Spring Hill College at 7 pm, a match that was scheduled prior to Tuskegee being awarded the SIAC West Cluster.
The second day of the Cluster begins at 8 am on Friday with Lane facing Kentucky State, followed by six other matches. The other matches on the day include Central State-Spring Hill (10 am), Miles-Central State (12 noon), Spring Hill-LeMoyne Owen (2 pm), Lane-Central State (4 pm), Spring Hill-Kentucky State (6 pm) and Kentucky State-Miles (8 pm).
The final day, Saturday, begins with Central State facing LeMoyne-Owen at 8 am. They will be followed by LeMoyne Owen-Kentucky State (10 am), Tuskegee-Central State (12 noon) and Tuskegee-Kentucky State (2 pm).
The Lady Golden Tigers look to end a two-match losing streak during the Cluster, an event they split their four matches at earlier this season in Frankfort (Ky.). In that portion of the Cluster, Tuskegee defeated Lane and Central State, before falling Kentucky State in four sets and LeMoyne-Owen in five. Offensively,
Jessica Johnson (137) and
Taliyana Bryant (136) lead the Lady Golden Tigers, while
Shakayia Wilson - the reigning SIAC Newcomer of the Week - has added 119 kills and
Donovan Wingfield 96.
Janae Graham leads the Lady Golden Tigers in assists with 509 out of a possible 571 this season, while
Zahria Radford leads the team in digs with 286, while Graham has added 99 so far this season.
