Box Score 2 ALBANY, Ga. | Tuskegee University split their two matches on the opening day of the SIAC Crossover, defeating Benedict before falling to Claflin in the nightcap.
In the opening match of the SIAC Crossover, Tuskegee claimed a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 27-25) victory over Benedict that ran their winning streak to five matches at the time.
Pamela Allen led the Tigerettes with 12 kills in the opener, hitting .667 on 18 total attempts. Although she was the lone player in double figures,
Donovan Wingfield added five kills to help pace Tuskegee.
Morgan Scrivens added a team-high 24 assists and seven digs in the win, while
Zahria Radford led Tuskegee with eight digs. Allen also added seven digs and four service aces in the victory.
In the nightcap, the Tigerettes fell to Claflin 3-0 (23-25, 14-25, 22-25), which ended their five-match winning streak.
The two teams battled throughout the match, and it began in game one when they traded points with Tuskegee closing to within 21-20 on a
Jamiah Breda-Nixon kill. Claflin (4-4, 4-0 SIAC), the defending SIAC champion, extended the lead to 23-21 before the Tigerettes scored back-to-back points, which was highlighted by a Breda-Nixon kill. With the game tied at 23-all, Claflin was able to win the next points to go up 1-0 overall in the match.
After falling in the second game, Tuskegee fought back in third game after they fell behind by five points. The Tigerettes were able to get a pair of points off of a service error by Claflin and an ace by
Morgan Scrivens. Unfortunately for Tuskegee, Claflin was able to push ahead and win three of the next six points for the victory.
Allen led Tuskegee (6-4, 4-2 SIAC) with eight kills, while hitting .278 in the loss; while Breda-Nixon added seven while hitting .158. Meanwhile, Wingfield and
Jacqueline Wilson each added five kills in the loss.
Scrivens led the Tigerettes with 17 assists, while Radford contributed with 11 digs. Rachel Wood added five digs, while
Angelique Watson paced four other players with four digs each.
The Tigerettes return to action Friday with another pair of matches in the Crossover, when they take on Fort Valley State at 9 am (cst) and Clark Atlanta at 1 pm (cst).
