TUSKEGEE, Ala. | After four days off, the Tuskegee University volleyball team returns to action Thursday in the SIAC Crossover hosted by Albany State University.
Tuskegee (5-3, 3-1 SIAC) will play six matches in three days in the Crossover, all against opponents from the East Division of the SIAC. The Tigerettes opened the season winning three-of-four matches from teams in the West Division at the SIAC West Cluster at the beginning of September.
The Tigerettes are led offensively by returning All-SIAC selection
Pamela Allen with 60 kills, while averaging 2.31 kills per set and hitting .241 this season. Freshman
Jamiah Breda-Nixon has contributed 56 kills, averaging 2.31 kills per set and hitting .287 this season. Defensively, freshman
Zahria Radford leads the team with 98 digs, while
Rachael Wood has added 36 digs. Sophomore
Morgan Scrivens leads Tuskegee with 174 assists, averaging 6.69 assists per set.
As a team, Tuskegee has connected on 215 kills to their opponents 203 kills. They are averaging 7.96 kills per set, and are hitting .152 this season. The team has also added 78 service aces – led by
Janae Graham with 30. They also have added 259 digs and 25 blocks this season.
Tuskegee opens the SIAC Crossover against Benedict (3-3, 2-1 SIAC), who is entering the match as winners of two of their last three matches. The Tigerettes will then turn their attention to defending SIAC champion Claflin (1-4, 1-0 SIAC) in their afternoon match. The Panthers are led offensively by Bria Bronston with 54 kills, averaging 2.84 kills per set; while Kiara Johnson (2.17) and Chymaine Guinyard (2.00) are averaging over two kills per set this season.
The Tigerettes will face a pair of opponents on Friday, beginning with Fort Valley State (1-2, 0-2 SIAC) at 9 am (cst). Fort Valley State is led this season by Justice Stegall and Raven Conner on the offensive side of the net, and by Conner (19 digs) on defense. They will face Clark Atlanta (0-2, 0-0 SIAC) in the final match of the second day of the Crossover.
Closing out the SIAC Crossover on Saturday, the Tigerettes will face Albany State (1-7, 1-1 SIAC) at 7 am (cst). They will then close out the SIAC Crossover against Paine (4-2, 0-0 SIAC).
