BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Tuskegee University volleyball team opened conference play at the SIAC Cluster #1 Friday at the Birmingham Crossplex, splitting their first two matches of the cluster.
In the opener, Tuskegee fell to Kentucky State 3-1 (6-25, 17-25, 25-19, 16-25) before coming back to beat Lane in their final match of the day 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-15).
In the final match of the day, the Tigerettes were able to score early and win in three games over Lane.
Pamela Allen led the way for Tuskegee (2-3, 1-1 SIAC) with 13 kills on 27 total attacks, hitting .296 for the match. She was joined in double figure kills by Donavan Wingfield with 10 kills on 17 total attacks, hitting .412, while
Jacqueline Wilson added three kills and
Rachael Wood two.
Morgan Scrivens recorded 22 assists on the 30 kills by the Tigerettes, while
Zahria Radford collected 11 digs in the victory. Wood added eight digs, Scrivens seven and
Janae Graham seven in the victory.
As a team, the Tigerettes hit .122 for the match, collecting 30 kills on 90 total attacks. They also had 18 service aces – four from Scrivens and three from Radford – 43 digs and three blocks.
Lane was led by Quinnisha Thomas with six kills, hitting .150. She also added eight digs, while Sharnise Katherine led the way with 11 digs.
The Tigerettes conclude the SIAC Cluster Saturday with two matches against Lane and LeMoyne Owen.
