Montgomery, Ala. (February 16, 2014) – In the first game of a three-game baseball series at Paterson Field this weekend, the Tuskegee Golden Tigers (2-2, 0-0 SIAC) dropped a 9-5 decision to the Buccaneers of Barry University (7-2) of Miami Shores, Fla.
The Buccaneers scored six runs in the second inning and picked up three more runs in the fourth and fifth innings for their nine runs. Barry pounded out eight hits and committed two errors.
Tuskegee collected five runs on five hits and did not commit an error.
Gene Moody drove in two runs and pinch-hitter
Kadrian Russ added another RBI. The Golden Tigers scored one run in the third inning and four in the seventh.
John Bryant (1-1) inherited the loss and Billy Atkins (1-1) picked up the win. Blaine Duncan recorded the save for the Buccaneers.
Game 2: The Buccaneers (7-2) took game two on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Golden Tigers 11-5.
Barry scored five runs in the top of the third inning, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth for their run production. The Buccaneers pounded out 11 hits en route to the victory.
Buccaneer pitching limited the Golden Tigers to six hits. The Golden Tigers (2-3) put two runs across in the bottom of the third inning and three in the fifth.
Cash Oliver had two hits, driving in three runs.
Alexander Henderson had a double and one of Oliver's hits was a triple.
William Buford, who went to the mound in the bottom of the sixth inning for Tuskegee, retired all ten Buccaneer batters he faced.
Luis Deville (1-0) posted his first win of season and
Tevin Worthy (0-2) suffered the loss.
Game 3: The Golden Tigers' bats ran into another buzz saw on Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of the series. The visiting Buccaneers defeated Tuskegee 11-1, taking all three games from the Golden Tigers.
The Golden Tigers (2-4) had four hits and scored one run on a solo home run by
Cash Oliver in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Danny Barnes led the Golden Tigers with two hits, including a two-bagger.
The Buccaneers (8-2) scored 11 runs on nine hits, giving southpaw Nathan Greve (1-0) his first win of the season. They broke the game open in the top of the eighth with seven runs crossing the plate.
Cameron Summers (1-1) was tagged with his first loss.
The Golden Tigers will return to action on next Saturday, travelling to Talladega, Ala., to face the Tornadoes of Talladega College in a twin bill, starting at 12:00 noon.
