The Tuskegee Tigerettes, still reeling after an undesired showing at the SIAC Volleyball Crossover this past weekend, decided to unleash their frustrations out in their only match of the week. An old rival in Miles College showed up at the Daniel 'Chappie' James center on Wednesday night, and it only took Tuskegee 65 minutes to finish off their third home match of 2013, winning in straight sets 25-18, 25-23 and 25-12.
Coach
Tarsha Askew was not pleased with the results of the SIAC Crossover in Frankfort, Ky., and she credited her team with regaining focus before going to Jackson, Tenn. next week to participate in the second West Cluster of the season.
"We won two, we lost two and we let two get away," Askew said. "
I really feel like we let the matches against Albany State and Benedict get away from us. So, I feel that this was a great win for us, which will allow us to fully rest and recover before we go back at it next week."
Tanesha Foster had a match-high with 17 digs, and
Pamela Allen led a quartet of Tigerettes that had five or more kills with a match-high 13 of her own. The duo of
Amber East and Ashley Mason combined for 28 of the team's 31 total assists on the night, and
Kristal Woodard was solid behind the baseline, as she had a grand total of five service aces.
"We fought hard in this match, because we were still dealing with physical and mental fatigue from the road trip," Askew said. "But, this puts us back on the right track, and this could start something big for us as we prepare for our next road trip."
Briana Gatlin had eight kills in the losing effort for the Lady Bears, and Kiana Barnes had a match-high 16 assists. However, Miles was not as aggressive as Tuskegee, as they lost the kill count 42-27. The visitors also only had one service ace to go with eight digs.
Tuskegee gets back on the road for the second (and final) SIAC West Cluster of the season, beginning one week from tomorrow. The cluster matches will be played Oct. 4 and 5 at Lane College in Jackson, Tenn.
