Edward Colvin

Edward Colvin will be entering his 12th season at Tuskegee University in 2019, with nine as head coach of the Tuskegee Lady Golden Tigers Softball team. His record through five seasons as softball coach is 144-120-1, with consecutive winning seasons during the 2011 and 2012 softball seasons, and an SIAC West Division title during his first season. 

Colvin has coached the Lady Golden Tigers to three consecutive Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016; earning a bid to the NCAA Division II South 1 Region in each of those three years. During that time he has coached several all-conference selections, a pair of Tournament Most Valuable Player award winners, and in 2016 coached the SIAC Player of the Year - Kaylin Finch - and the SIAC Utility Player of the Year - Sharde Thomas.

He is also the head coach for Tuskegee University’s cross country teams.
 
Colvin has worked at Tuskegee since 2006, where he initially started out working as assistant men’s basketball coach under head coach Leon Douglas.  Basketball coaching accomplishments for Colvin include helping lead the Golden Tigers to a tournament championship in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) in 2010, and West Division titles for Tuskegee Basketball in the SIAC for the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons, including the best regular season record in the conference during the 2011-2012 season. 
 
Colvin’s duties as assistant coach for men’s basketball included developing a comprehensive training program for student-athletes during the off-season and regular season, as well as monitoring the academic status of his student-athletes.  He has often taken a leadership role with his players and served as a trainer for both basketball and softball players to help them perform adeptly and proficiently in their natural environments.  Colvin also serves as a primary recruiter for members of his softball team.
 
Colvin came to Tuskegee from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., where he worked for four years as a financial aid counselor before taking over as an assistant coach for the Tigers’ basketball team in 2004.  Working with Douglas before coming to Tuskegee, Stillman had an overall record of 34-23 between 2004 and 2006.  The Tigers also won the SIAC Tournament Championship and reached the NCAA Tournament.

In his time as a financial aid counselor at Stillman from 2001 to 2004, Colvin was responsible for collecting and analyzing financial aid data to determine academic eligibility for all students.  He also reviewed and processed all student loans using the mandated guidelines from the federal and state governments, as well as granting certification to qualified recipients for financial aid.  Colvin also counseled parents of college students about the financial aid process and the requirements for eligibility.
 
Before coming to Stillman, Colvin worked at his alma mater of Miles College in Fairfield, Ala. for 22 years.  After graduating from Miles in 1978 with his bachelor’s degree in business administration, Colvin worked from 1979 to 1990 as an assistant director of financial aid.  Duties included implementing and allocating federal and state funds to eligible students, as well as preparing and monitoring annual budgets within the department.
 
From 1990 to 2001, Colvin gained key experience in Miles’ athletic department, serving as the head coach in various time periods for five different sports during this span.  Sports coached include football, basketball, track and field, softball and cross country.  Duties included the active recruitment and training of student-athletes, as well as acquiring training and knowledge of sports-related injuries and treatment measures.
