TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Tuskegee baseball capped off a crucial weekend with a thrilling 17-14 win over LeMoyne-Owen on Sunday afternoon at Washington Field, completing a three-game sweep and securing a spot in next week's SIAC Baseball Tournament in Macon, Georgia.
In a game filled with momentum swings, the Golden Tigers (19-29 overall, 15-18 SIAC) showcased their offensive firepower, pounding out 21 hits and scoring in six of the nine innings.
Tuskegee wasted no time, striking first with three runs in the opening frame and adding another in the second to build an early 4-0 lead.
LeMoyne-Owen (16-26, 7-25 SIAC) responded with five runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead and added two more in the third to push ahead 7-4.
However, the Golden Tigers steadily chipped away, plating one in the fourth before exploding for eight runs in the sixth inning to reclaim control of the game. Tuskegee capitalized on multiple walks, extra-base hits, and aggressive baserunning to blow the game open.
Devon Lee led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, five RBIs, two walks, and two stolen bases.
John Saffold had a stellar performance, finishing 3-for-5 with a solo home run, three runs scored, and a stolen base.
Senior
Alex Glass also delivered at the plate, posting a 3-for-5 day that included a triple, two RBIs, and two stolen bases.
Jacobi Brooks added two hits and an RBI, while freshman
Samarion Ward contributed two hits, two runs, and an RBI from the bottom of the lineup.
Scott Williams chipped in a triple, and
Mehki Smith provided a three-hit game and scored three runs.
On the mound,
Ryan Morrow started and battled through 3.2 innings, giving up 10 earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.
Rodney Mudd II came on in relief and earned the win, tossing 2.1 innings while allowing four runs (three earned) with two strikeouts. Meanwhile, Lee sealed the victory with a strong closing effort, tossing three scoreless innings with two strikeouts to earn the save.
Tuskegee finished the game with nine stolen bases, capitalizing on LeMoyne-Owen's defensive struggles, which included three passed balls and allowing multiple baserunners to advance.
The Golden Tigers also flashed some power, recording three triples and a home run. The win secured the Golden Tigers' place in the 2025 SIAC Baseball Tournament, set to be held May 1-4 at Luther Williams Field in Macon, Georgia.
