Tuskegee Set for SIAC Quarterfinal Showdown Against Spring Hill

TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Tuskegee women's basketball is set to continue its quest for a conference championship as the No. 2 seed Golden Tigers take on No. 6 seed Spring Hill in the quarterfinal round of the SIAC Basketball Championship presented by Cricket.
 
The game is scheduled for Thursday, March 6, at 2:00 p.m. ET inside Forbes Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The winner will advance to the semifinal round, set for March 7 at 2:00 p.m. ET.

ABOUT TUSKEGEE (18-9, 14-5 SIAC)
Tuskegee enters the matchup with an 18-9 overall record and a 14-5 mark in SIAC play. The Golden Tigers secured their spot in the quarterfinal round after defeating Albany State 73-53 at home in the first round.
 
It was a dominant performance from Tuskegee, who controlled the game from start to finish, thanks to the efforts of leading scorer Hilani Cantone, who finished with 26 points, and Jasmine Manuel, who contributed a double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points.
 
Tuskegee has been a formidable opponent on both ends of the floor this season, averaging 59.0 points per game while holding opponents to 53.9 points per contest, boasting a scoring margin of +5.1.
 
The team is shooting 36.7 percent from the field and 27.0 percent from beyond the arc, with solid free throw shooting at 70.3 percent. Their defense has been particularly strong, averaging 8.6 steals per game while forcing nearly 18.5 turnovers per game from their opponents. The Golden Tigers have also been dominant on the boards, outrebounding teams by an average margin of +2.3.
 
Individually, Cantone has been the offensive leader for Tuskegee, averaging 12.0 points per game while shooting 42.1 percent from the floor. She has also been one of the team's best perimeter shooters, making 23 three-pointers on the season.
 
Senior guard Brittney Bolin has provided additional scoring with 10.9 points per game while leading the team in minutes played. Manuel has anchored the paint, averaging 8.2 points and a team-best 6.4 rebounds per contest.
 
Alexandria Johnson has also been a key contributor, averaging 7.1 points per game while providing strong perimeter defense.
 
ABOUT SPRING HILL (8-19, 6-13 SIAC)
Spring Hill enters the contest with an 8-19 overall record and a 6-13 mark in SIAC play. The Badgers are coming off an impressive upset victory over No. 3 seed Edward Waters in the first round, showing they are a dangerous team despite their record.

Spring Hill has faced its share of struggles this season, averaging 55.8 points per game while allowing 64.1 points per contest, resulting in a scoring margin of -8.3. The team is shooting 35.6 percent from the floor and 27.6 percent from three-point range.
 
Spring Hill's offense is led by Kellyn Hunter, who averages 13.6 points per game while shooting 33.4 percent from the floor. She is the primary scoring threat and a key player to watch for the Badgers.
 
Marta Duda has also been a force inside, averaging a near-double-double with 10.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game while shooting 39.0 percent from the field. Claudia Garrido provides additional scoring support at 7.8 points per game while hitting 30 three-pointers on the season.
 
Defensively, the Badgers have been inconsistent, allowing opponents to shoot nearly 40 percent from the field and struggling with turnovers, committing 17.8 per game.
 
When these two teams met in the regular season, Tuskegee won both contests. The first game was a hard-fought 59-55 victory on the road in Mobile, Alabama, while the second matchup saw Tuskegee take control with a 49-38 win at home. In both games, the Golden Tigers' defense was the difference-maker, holding Spring Hill well below their scoring average.
 
With a spot in the semifinals on the line, Tuskegee will look to continue its defensive dominance and rely on its experienced core to push forward in the tournament.
 
The Golden Tigers are aiming for their second SIAC Championship in three seasons and will be prepared for a tough battle against a Spring Hill team looking to pull another upset.
