Women’s Basketball Extends Win Streak to Nine with Gritty 59-51 Victory Over Lane

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Golden Tiger women's basketball team continued its dominant run in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play, securing a hard-fought 59-51 home victory over Lane inside the Daniel "Chappie" James Center on Monday night.

The win marks the ninth consecutive triumph for Tuskegee, improving their overall record to 14-8 and 11-4 in the SIAC.

The contest began as a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to find rhythm offensively.

Lane edged Tuskegee in the first quarter, holding a 14-12 advantage. However, Tuskegee responded in the second frame, using an efficient 17-point quarter to enter halftime with a 29-23 lead.

The Golden Tigers made their biggest statement in the third quarter, outscoring Lane 23-14 behind a combination of perimeter shooting and lockdown defense.

With a 16-point lead at the 7:32 mark in the fourth, Tuskegee appeared to be in full control.

However, Lane refused to go quietly, clawing back in the final minutes before Tuskegee sealed the game at the free-throw line.

Tuskegee shot 35.3 percent from the field (18-of-51), with a strong presence from beyond the arc, knocking down six three-pointers (35.3 percent).

The Golden Tigers capitalized at the charity stripe, converting 17-of-26 free throws, while also outpacing Lane in bench points (28-20), showcasing depth and contributions from key reserves.

Hilani Cantone led the charge with 17 points, going 5-of-15 from the field and 5-of-8 from the free-throw line, while Alexandria Johnson provided a 14-point effort, including a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Cynaye Bobbitt, Brittney Bolin, and SyAnn Holmes each added six points, with Bobbitt knocking down two crucial three-pointers.

Tuskegee held Lane to just 25.8 percent shooting from the field (16-of-62) and 23.5 percent from beyond the arc (4-of-17). The Golden Tigers also controlled the glass, outrebounding Lane 45-43, while forcing 21 turnovers, leading to 10 points off takeaways.

The defensive pressure was particularly effective in the third quarter, where Tuskegee forced multiple shot clock violations and held Lane to just 38.5% shooting (5-of-13). Additionally, the Golden Tigers capitalized on their size inside, limiting Lane to only 10 points in the paint, compared to 18 by Tuskegee.
