JACKSONVILLE, Fla. __ Tuskegee baseball was defeated in both games of a Saturday doubleheader at Ridgeview High School by scores of 13-1 and 12-3, falling 3-0 overall on the weekend in the conference series.
Edward Waters 13, Tuskegee 1 (7 Inn.)
EWU got on board early in the bottom of the opening inning, scoring the first after four straight walks to start the game. The Tigers scored runs on the next three at-bats, including one RBI single, another walk, and a sacrifice fly to center field for the 4-0 lead.
The Tigers added one run in the second, on an RBI single on the seventh pitch of the at-bat, making the score 5-0.
Tuskegee added its lone run in the top of the fourth, starting with a lead-off walk to start the frame. Later in the inning,
Nicholas Pratt singled to center field with two runners on to end the shutout.
Edward Waters pushed the lead to 13-1 after scoring seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Anthony Roman drew a bases load walk for the first run, followed by a trio of RBI singles that combined to score five runs, followed by a sacrifice fly before the end of the inning.
Devon Lee took the loss for Tuskegee, pitching three innings, allowing nine runs with seven earned on four hits, striking out two and walking seven.
Julian Grier and Pratt were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Golden Tigers, as Pratt went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Grier also stole two bases.
Edward Waters 12, Tuskegee 3 (7 Inn.)
Tuskegee dropped the third and final game of the series, 12-3, to close out Saturday's play after a crucial fifth and sixth inning to put the Tigers ahead. TU scored three runs and had seven hits with four errors while Edward Waters placed 12 runs, also with seven hits and two errors.
The Golden Tigers got on the board first as Pratt reached base with a double to center field, followed later by an RBI single from
Alex Glass to score Pratt for the opening run. TU took a 2-0 lead in the second after
Harrison Barnes reached on an error, scoring
Ryan Morrow. The score remained the same until the fifth, as
Scott Williams drove home Glass with a single to left field for the 3-0 lead.
Edward Waters captured the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to two hits and two TU errors. The first run was scored on an RBI single to left, while errors allowed the next two runs, while another RBI single gave the Tigers a 4-3 lead. EWU completely broke the game open in the sixth, scoring eight runs on four hits, including a three-run homer near the start of the frame. The final two runs were scored on a single to left field to give Edward Waters a 12-3 lead and end the series.
Tuskegee's pitching had another troublesome outing, giving up six-plus hits for the second game in a row.
Mikelle Mason took the loss on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and six runs, walking six. Meanwhile,
Daniel Williams Jr. and
Alandas Armistad both made appearances out of the bullpen.
Williams led the team at the plate in the game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and walk, while six different batters combined for the seven total hits.
UP NEXT
Tuskegee will return home for the next five games, starting with a midweek doubleheader against Paine College on Tuesday, April 2. First-pitches are set for 12 and 3 p.m. at Washington Field.
