HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __ Tuskegee baseball fell 13-3 on Wednesday in a midweek non-conference matchup against Alabama Huntsville at Charger Park, thanks to eight runs in the second inning.
The Golden Tigers opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks in part to a pair of walks drawn by
Harrison Barnes and
Caleb Kirkland with the bases loaded. As a team, TU drew four total walks and one batter hit by pitch, leaving three runners on base before the bottom of the first.
UAH scored once in the bottom of the first, on a solo home run to right field after a six-pitch at-bat from Merick Carter. The Chargers broke the game open in the bottom of the second, scoring eight runs on three hits to take a 9-2 lead. The biggest blow in the frame was a double by Carter that drove in two.
The home team later added a run in the fourth on a bases loaded groundout, followed by two scores in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double to right center. Tuskegee cut into the lead with a score in the top of the sixth, as Kirkland scored on a wild pitch, however UAH added to one final run in the seventh, also scoring on the base paths.
Cayden Smith got the start on the mound for Tuskegee on the day, pitching one inning and allowing three runs on two hits, while walking one. Meanwhile,
Alandas Armistad and
Ryan Morrow both saw action out of the bullpen, with Armistad working for three innings, allowing seven runs on five hits, while walking two. Morrow pitched for 2.1 innings, surrendering three runs on four hits, walking three.
Kirkland and Barnes each drove in one run a peace for the Golden Tigers, while
Brian Hardaway II earned the loan hit on the day for the road team. TU also had patience at the plate, piling up 10 walks, led by Barnes, Kirkland, and
Scott Williams all with two.

Tuskegee Baseball will travel to Jacksonville, Florida this weekend as the Golden Tigers will take on Edward Waters for a three-game conference series. The series is set to start on Friday at 5 p.m. ET, followed by a Saturday doubleheader to close out the series.
