Softball Sweeps Weekend Series Against LeMoyne-Owen

TUSKEGEE __ Tuskegee softball defeated LeMoyne-Owen 8-0 on Sunday in five innings, completing a sweep of the three-game conference series, after taking both games of Saturday's doubleheader, 13-1 and 4-2.
 
Kamya Hampton picked up a pair of wins on the weekend, now at 13-6 on the season. The senior pitched for nine total innings allowing just one run on three hits, while striking out 14 batters and being part of a team no-hitter along with Katie Harris in the final game on Sunday.

Caroline Clark (5-9) also picked up a win on Saturday, pitching a complete seven innings and allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out five.
 
Carole Ross led the team at the plate on the weekend, batting .778 (7-for-9) in the series, to go along with four runs and three runs batted in. Meanwhile, Jada Chadwick went a combined 3-for-4 with six RBI and three runs scored, followed by a 3-for-5 weekend from Nylah Strange-Lindley to go with five RBIs and three runs.
 
Tuskegee 13, LeMoyne-Owen 1 (5 Inn.)
Tuskegee jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning to start the series, as Chadwick doubled, driving in both Jessica Morales and T'yauna Rector.
 
While keeping LeMoyne-Owen scoreless, TU broke the game open in the third, scoring ten total runs on nine hits and one error, while leaving two on base.
 
Harris drove in the first run of the frame with an RBI single, followed by Ross with a double to drive two home and another RBI double later from Victoria Harrison to push the score to 6-0. Soon after, Strange-Lindley hit a sacrifice fly to left for the next run, while Rector and Chadwick had RBI doubles, before Harris came back around and drove home the final run of the inning, giving TU a 12-0 lead.
 
Both sides scored in the fourth, ending the shutout, as Payton Dunham drove home the last run in the 13-1 game.
 
Tuskegee 4, LeMoyne-Owen 2
The Golden Tigers earned seven hits in the second game of the day in a close 4-2 win, after holding the Magicians scoreless until the top of the seventh.
 
Tuskegee got on the board first in the second with an RBI single from Strange-Lindley and a groundout to third from Harris to take a 2-0 lead. In the fourth, TU added another run on a sacrifice fly from Naturelle Miles, before the final score from the home team on an RBI double from Ross to score Aaliyah Byrd for the 4-0 advantage.
 
LeMoyne-Owen later scored in the top of the seventh, as Ziay Graves hit a two-run home run before TU closed the game out to complete the doubleheader.
 
Tuskegee 8, LeMoyne-Owen 1 (5 Inn.)
Tuskegee was the first to get on the board again on Sunday, as Chadwick got the runs going with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, before a double from Strange-Lindley and a single from Kaeley Roldan helped extend the lead to 5-0 in the second.
 
The Golden Tigers added another three runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win off RBI singles from Harrison and Byrd, along with a bases loaded walk drawn by Strange-Lindley in the run-rule contest.
 
Hampton earned her second win of the series, combining with Harris to hold the Magicians without a hit in the win.

The Golden Tigers will remain at home for a midweek non-conference doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern on Tuesday, March 26. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., with the game being available live on the Golden Tiger Sports Network.
