TUSKEGEE __ Offense was in full effect on Wednesday in Tuskegee's 16-11 loss to Alabama Huntsville at Washington Field. UAH collected 16 hits on the day, compared to 15 from TU in the non-conference battle.
UAH opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to a pair of singles, first from Merick Carter to center field, followed by a single to right field from Colin Baeder to take a 2-0 lead.
Tuskegee tied the game in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on three hits.
Cody Willis was the first runner on after an infield single with one out, followed later by
Evan Jones with a single to left field.
Harrison Barnes singled to right on the next at-bat, driving home the first run, before Jones scored later in the inning to make the score 2-2.
The Chargers recaptured the lead at 5-2 in the top of the third after three hits, including a solo home run from Carter to start the frame. Baeder drove home his second run of the game, while the third run was scored on a passed ball.
The Golden Tigers added a run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single to center field from
Scott Williams, before adding another score in the sixth as
James Slaughter drove home
Alex Glass with an infield single to pull within two runs at 6-4.
UAH broke the game open in the seventh, extending its lead to 12-4 over the next two innings on a combined five hits and two TU defensive errors. Tuskegee began to rally back in the bottom of the eighth, as Glass scored on a wild pitch, followed by RBI singles from
Devon Lee and Williams, and a three-run shot from Jones to cut the lead to 12-10.
In the ninth, the Chargers added four more runs for insurance on two RBI singles and RBI double to go up 16-10 to finish with 16 total hits, while Glass hit a solo homer in the bottom half of the frame, ending the second comeback effort from Tuskegee.
Willis went 3-for-4 with three runs and a walk at the plate to lead Tuskegee's 15-hit outing, followed by Glass, Jones, Slaughter, and Williams all earned two hits and drove in at least one RBI in the loss. Jones also had a three-run home run in the game.
Mikelle Mason (1-1) picked up the loss on the mound, working 7.0 innings, allowing nine hits and five earned runs, while striking out eight and walking seven.
Alandas Armistad,
Jaylen Hill, and
Michael Hill all made appearances out of the bullpen, allowing seven combined hits, seven runs, and two walks through two innings.
Carter led UAH at the plate on the day, going 3-for-4, including the three-run homer and two runs scored, while four other batters all collected multiple hits in the game. The team drew nine total walks and stole seven total bases in the win.

Tuskegee will return to action this weekend as it hosts the first home conference series of the season in a three-game battle with Clark Atlanta starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 2. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. at Washington Field.
