LIVINGSTON, Ala. __ The Tuskegee baseball program dropped a midweek non-conference road battle against West Alabama by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Tartt Field.
The Golden Tigers fell in the contest despite outhitting UWA eight to five, led by a 2-for-4 day from Jeremy Slaughter. Five other batters combined for the remaining six hits.
TU opened the scoring in the opening inning, as
James Slaughter singled to left and advanced to third on an error, before a sacrifice fly to left field from
Scott Williams to gain an early 1-0 lead.
West Alabama jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fourth, going up 4-1 in the frame. The Tigers got the first two batters on base with a walk and hit by pitch, before an RBI single through the left side for the first run. Later with the bases loaded, another run scored on a passed ball, followed by the last two on a walk and TU error.
Ryan Morrow crossed the plate in the sixth after a single and stolen base, reducing the deficit to 4-2 after scoring on an error.
UWA scored three more runs for insurance over the seventh and eighth innings, before a late rally from Tuskegee came up short in the top of the ninth, as Slaughter and
Brian Hardaway II both scored in the ninth for the 7-5 final.
Graham Holland earned the win for West Alabama on the mound, allowing two hits and one unearned run over three innings and striking out six batters out of the bullpen. Grainger West started on the bump for UWA, giving up one hit and one run over three innings, striking out four and walking one.
Daniel Williams Jr. got the start for Tuskegee, working for three innings and giving up four runs on two hits and earning one strikeout.
Cody Willis,
Jaylen Hill, and
Tyee Turner all made appearances out of the bullpen, combining for 4.2 innings of work.
Ryan Morrow,
Alex Glass, and Williams each drove in one run for the Golden Tigers, while Morrow stole two of four total stolen bases.

Tuskegee will return to the diamond this weekend as the team remains on the road for a conference series against Benedict, starting on Saturday, February 24 at Tiger Field in Columbia.
