TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ The Tuskegee University women's basketball team returns to play this week with a pair of Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games at home, hosting Allen on Thursday evening, followed by Benedict on Saturday afternoon.
Thursday's game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off while Saturday's contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start. Both games can be found on the Golden Tiger Sports Network.
Tuskegee (6-3, 3-2 SIAC) is coming off a close win over Edward Waters in SIAC play. The Golden Tigers, who held EWU to under 40 percent shooting from the field and under 20 from three-point range, secured the 64-62 win on a pair of free throws from
Sumaiyah Abdur-Rahim with time expired.
Brittney Bolin,
Arielle McElroy, and
Jasmine Manuel led the team offensively, all scoring in double figures, led by Bolin with 15, followed by McElroy and Manuel with 13 and 10 points respectively.
Bolin and McElroy have also been steady for Tuskegee all season, as they both average double figure points at 12.8 and 11.4 respectively.
Allen (4-5, 1-3 SIAC) is coming off two straight losses in league play, falling on the road to Kentucky State and Central State at the start of December. On the season, the Yellow Jackets have a pair of double figure scorers in Kash Hakerson (13.8 ppg) and Taliah Wesley (10.7 ppg), and average 66 points per contest through nine games.
Tuskegee has dominated the matchup over the last four meetings, winning all four contests in Columbia, S.C., including the game last season, on January 2, 2023, with the Golden Tigers taking a 72-66 win.
Benedict (1-9, 0-5 SIAC) will come into the weekend after a road contest in Mobile against Spring Hill on Thursday. The Tigers average 61.9 points per game so far, and shoot just 33.7 percent from the field and 25.7 percent from three-point range.
The trio of Taylor Christmas, Ghylissa Knowles, and Raven Johnson have led the Tigers this season with a combined 28.0 points per game while Joyner leads the team as the lone double figure scorer at 11.2 points per contest.
In the recent memory, Tuskegee and Benedict have matched up well against one another with the teams splitting the past four matchups.
