TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ The Tuskegee women's basketball team starts a four-game road swing this Saturday, Jan. 20, in Memphis at LeMoyne-Owen. Tip is set for 1 p.m. CT inside Bruce-Johnson Hall.
Tuskegee (9-4, 6-3 SIAC) goes into the weekend winning four of its last five games, after defeating Central State, 79-55, in its last matchup Jan. 15 inside the Daniel "Chappie" James Center. LeMoyne-Owen is 8-6 overall and 4-4 in the SIAC.
The Golden Tigers never trailed in their game against the Marauders, scoring 38 points in the paint, 33 bench points, and 18 points off turnovers in the dominant win.
Jasmine Manuel led the way in the win with her first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while guards
Sumaiyah Abdur-Rahim and
Brittney Bolin added 17 and 16 points respectively.
Bolin continues to lead the program in scoring and ranks ninth in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is points per game with 13.6 points per game. She has also had double-figure point totals in 11 of 13 games this season.
Meanwhile, Tuskegee has two players that rank in the top ten in the SIAC in assists, in seniors
Arielle McElroy (7th) and Abdur-Rahim (10th) at 3.5 and 2.9 assists per game.
The Golden Tigers will have to contend with one of the better defensive units in league, allowing just 58.9 points per game. Sierra Lynch has led the Magicians in scoring so far at 12.1 points per game, while Jade Salters is the second double figure scorer at 10.8 points per contest.
This is the first time Tuskegee and LeMoyne-Owen have met this season and the Golden Tigers have won four consecutive games in the series. The last loss for TU came on the road on Feb. 20, 2020.
Lane comes into the weekend at 6-9 and 4-4 in the SIAC, facing Spring Hill at home on Saturday before Monday's meeting. The Dragons have dropped three straight games, falling to Savannah State (Jan. 6), at Miles (Jan. 13), and at Livingstone (Jan. 15).
Lane has a pair of double figure scorers on the year in Brailyn Tate at 12.2 points along with pulling down 5.8 rebounds per game, followed by Dyani Bernstine at 10.0 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game.
This is also the first time Tuskegee will meet Lane this season. TU has won eight straight games in the series and 11 of the last 12 meetings.
