Volleyball Falls Short to Lee in Season Opener

CLEVELAND, Tenn. __ The Tuskegee University volleyball team dropped their 2023 season opener on the road to Gulf South Conference member Lee University in three sets inside the Paul Dana Walker Arena on Wednesday night.

Junior Moriah Seay led the Golden Tigers with three kills during the match in her Tuskegee debut after transferring from Gadsden State Community College and added eight digs and a block to her performance.

Setters Mikea Allen and Rita Nua combined for 11 assists, while Alexandria Ellis, Keniah McRuffin, and Sian Sprinkle combined for eight blocks in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Trailing 2-0, Tuskegee earned their first point on an attack error before the first kill from Seay later in the set to make the score 3-2 early. From there, Lee went on an 8-2 run to go up 11-4 before gaining a double-digit lead later in the set and taking the 25-12 win.

SET 2 | Lee led from start to finish in the second, storming out to a 9-3 lead, before going up 17-6 to force a Tuskegee timeout. The Golden Tigers chipped away at the lead after the break, getting within single digits, but fell 25-16.

SET 3 | Tuskegee dropped the final set behind six Flame service aces in the frame. The score was tight throughout the first half of the set, with Tuskegee holding an early lead, however seven Golden Tiger errors gave Lee momentum, sealing the win with a 25-12 third.
