SAVANNAH, Ga. __ Tuskegee women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker on the road in Tiger Arena, losing 60-51 to the Savannah State Tigers in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Tigers struggled offensively in the first half, trailing 14-8 after the opening quarter, before scoring only four points in the second. TU shot just 5-of-26 from the field during the first 20 minutes of play and went into halftime down 36-12, the largest deficit of the season.
Coming out of the break, Tuskegee began to respond, cutting the deficit to under 20 points four different times, however the strong offensive game continued for the Tigers in the third, maintaining a 51-30 lead heading into the final quarter.
TU began the final period on a 13-7 run, climbing within 15 (58-43) at the four-minute mark following a pair of free throws from
Sumaiyah Abdur-Rahim. Following a jumper from SSU on the next possession, the Golden Tigers held Savannah State scoreless for the remainder of the game; however, could not complete the comeback, falling short for the 60-51 final.
Savannah State shot 35.4 percent for the night, hitting 23-of-65 from the field, while Tuskegee hit just 28.3 percent on 17-of-60 shooting from the floor. Both teams struggled from deep, only hitting nine combined threes, while TU made 12-of-15 from the line and SSU connected on 10-of-15.
Arielle McElroy led a trio of double figure scorers for Tuskegee with 14 points, followed by
Brittney Bolin with 11 and Abdur-Rahim with 10 in the loss.

Tuskegee will remain on the road for another SIAC matchup next week, on Monday, Dec. 18, at 3 p.m. ET against Edward Waters inside the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex.
