Golden Tigers Look to Extend Win Streak in Road Matchup Against Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga. __ Tuskegee women's basketball travels east to battle Savannah State at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday inside Tiger Arena, for a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) battle.

Tuskegee (5-2) and Savannah State (3-3) meet just once this season and have split the last four meetings between programs. The Golden Tigers took the last matchup, 78-62, in the Daniel "Chappie" James Center on Dec. 15, 2022.

Tuskegee is looking to earn its fourth straight win after a 72-65 win over Columbus State on Tuesday for the second non-conference win of the season.
 
Junior Cynaye Bobbitt led a season-high six double figure scorers for the Golden Tigers in the win with a career-high 16 points and six rebounds. Senior Sumaiyah Abdur-Rahim finished with 12 points and five assists, followed by Aaliyah Austin, Brittney Bolin, and Arielle McElroy who all scored ten points in the win.

Bolin will make her team-high 40th career start on Saturday against the Tigers. The junior is averaging a team-high 12.7 points, along with 4.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
 
McElroy is the other double figure scorer so far at 10.9 points, along with team-highs of 5.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest.

Bobbitt is having a solid start to her Golden Tiger career, averaging 9.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in her three appearances. She has two double digit scoring games and grabbed three or more rebounds in all three.

Savannah State will host its fifth home game of the season on Saturday, starting the season with four matchups in Savannah and three true home contests. The team is 2-2 at home so far with wins over Trinity Baptist (114-64) and Central State (73-62) and losses against Kentucky State (75-82) and Georgia Southwestern State (53-67).

SSU has three players averaging double figures: Mya Byrd, Amari Heard, and Nyla Allen.

Byrd, who spent last season at Georgia State after two years at Columbia State, leads the way with 14.3 points, 4.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game. She has four double figure games so far, including a season-high 26 against Trinity Baptist.

Allen and Heard are the top returners from last year. Allen averages 11.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Heard boasts numbers of 12.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game average. Heard is also shooting 91.3 percent from the free throw line, shooting 21-of-23 this season.
