Women’s Basketball Earns First Conference Win Against Albany State, 68-63

ALBANY, Ga. __ The Tuskegee women's basketball team outscored Albany State by four in the final quarter en route to a 68-63 victory over the Golden Rams to conclude the first conference road trip of the season.

Junior Brittney Bolin stuffed the stat sheet in leading the Golden Tigers (3-2) to victory. The guard had 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal in the win. Arielle McElroy was the team's second leading scorer with 11 points, six assists, and five rebounds, while Sumaiyah Abdur-Rahim (10), Trinity Layton (9), and Jasmine Manuel (8) also made contributions in the win.

The Golden Tigers led 21-19 after a high-scoring first quarter, shooting 10-for-16 (62.5 percent) from the field, including one three-pointer in the frame. TU stretched the lead to as many as ten at 39-29 with just over two minutes remaining in the first half, before heading to the locker room up 39-31.

However, Albany State picked up momentum early in the third and outscored Tuskegee by seven in the quarter, making the differential a just single point, at 48-47 heading into the final 10 minutes.

The score stayed tight in the fourth, with Tuskegee holding a one possession lead for most of the quarter, until a score from Albany State tied the game at 56-56 with 6:07 to play.

On the next possession, Bolin hit her second three-pointer, giving the Golden Tigers the lead for the final time, as they controlled the final minutes to escape with the win.

Tuskegee finished the game shooting 46.9 percent (30-for-64) from the field, compared to just 37.3 percent (22-for-59) from Albany State. The Golden Tigers led for 35 minutes of play and outscored the Golden Rams in points in the paint (20), points off turnovers (15-10), and fast break points (11-8).
